Centre inks Rs 1,207-crore deal Cochin Shipyard for refit of INS Vikramaditya

The Defence Ministry signed a contract of Rs 1,207 crore with Cochin Shipyard Limited for Short Refit and Dry Docking (SRDD) of INS Vikramaditya on Saturday.
The ministry said in a statement that the project is an important step towards development of Cochin Shipyard Limited as Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Hub for supporting the industrial ecosystem of India.
It said that the project would likely involve around 50 MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and would lead to employment generation for more than 3,500 personnel.
Notably, INS Vikramaditya is an Indian Aircraft Carrier which was commissioned into the Indian Navy in November 2013. After completion of the Refit, INS Vikramaditya will join the active fleet of the Indian Navy with upgraded combat capability.
This project is expected to provide a major boost for the Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Make in India initiative.
